Been In A Car Accident? 3 Things You Can Do To Help Your Attorney Help You

If you've been in a car accident and you've hired an attorney, do your best to form a good working relationship. The relationship you build with your attorney will help to determine the outcome of your accident claim. This is especially true where information is concerned. Your attorney will gather a lot of necessary information from police accident reports. But, there will still be information that only you can provide. Here are three things you need to do to make sure your attorney has everything they need to negotiate a fair settlement for your injuries.

Provide a Detailed Report

If you've hired an accident attorney, it's crucial that you provide them with as much information as you can about the accident. This should include any information that might not be included in the accident report. Some of that information includes the make and model of your car, as well as the make and model of any other cars involved in the accident. You'll also want to provide information about damage to the cars, including where the damage is located. It's also important that you tell the attorney where your car is located; either the repair shop or the impound lot. That way, your attorney can begin assessing your damages.

Go Beyond the Insurance Card

If you've been in an accident, you'll need to provide your attorney with information about your auto insurance. But, don't just provide them with your insurance card. Your attorney will need more information than that. You'll also need to provide them with a copy of your insurance declarations page. The declaration page is where your attorney will find out all the information about your coverage limits. If you've already filed a claim with your insurance company, which you should have done right after the accident, provide your attorney with the claim number and the name of the claims adjuster in charge of your claim. This information will make it easier for your attorney to make contact with your insurance company.

Take Your Own Pictures

If you've been in a car accident and you're working with an attorney, be sure to take your own pictures. Pictures can help your attorney put together your case for potential settlement negotiations. Don't limit your pictures to the exterior of the car. Get inside the car for more detailed pictures. You should include pictures of the airbags, as well as pictures of any damage done to the inside of the car. If you have visible injuries, including cuts and bruises, take pictures of those as well. Those pictures will help to document the severity of the accident and the extent of your injuries.
